5 Tips on Planning a Successful Team Building Activity

Teamwork is crucial to the success of any business, but creating a team that works well together doesn’t happen overnight. This is why you need to invest in team building activities that will give your employees the opportunity to get to know each other outside the office.

If you don’t know exactly where to begin in planning your in person team building activity, here are five tips that you might find useful:

1. Define your goals

You don’t just organise a team building event to make your employees closer to each other. You need to define your goals clearly to make sure that this event will be worth your investment. A team building event could be done to build trust within each team member, to allow better communication within the team or to help employees get out of a creative rut. Once you know what you’re trying to achieve, it’s easier to decide on the details of your event.

2. Work with professional organisers

It’s no secret that planning a team building event on your own can be quite stressful. So, to make things easier for you, it’s best to work with a trusted organiser that can take care of every detail of your event—from the venue to the activities. Hiring a professional also means that you can do activities that are related to your goals. Of course, nothing beats the convenience of not having to worry about forgetting any detail and just focusing on having fun with your team.

3. Find ways to show your appreciation to your team

Your team building event should be a time when you can reward employees who worked extra hard for your business. Recognise employees who have been with you for many years, those who performed above what is expected and those who contributed a lot to your success. Your reward doesn’t have to be grand, especially if you still don’t have a huge budget to work with. For most employees, getting recognised is already enough because it makes them feel seen and valued, which motivates them to work harder.

4. Invest in merch

To make your team building more fun and memorable, you could have some custom T-shirts created for each member of your team. Some businesses even create welcome bags or baskets for their employees, and you can do the same if you have the budget. For instance, you can create a welcome bag that has their T-shirts, pen, and notepad for taking notes during activities, some snacks to munch on, and a water bottle to keep them hydrated during your event.

5. Focus on the fun

Your team building event should be the time when you can all forget the stresses in the office and focus on having fun. So leave all the work behind, stop checking your emails constantly and be present in the moment.

A team building event is definitely a worthwhile investment, especially if it means that you can build a strong team for your business.
